Remember when Casemiro arrived at Old Trafford in August 2022 for £60 million? It felt like a statement. A five-time Champions League winner, a true anchor. He was supposed to be the missing piece in Erik ten Hag's midfield puzzle. For a while, he was. He bagged seven goals and six assists across all competitions in his debut season, including that crucial opener in the Carabao Cup final win over Newcastle. United finished third in the Premier League, and Casemiro looked every bit the world-class destroyer.

But things went sideways this past season. He picked up a hamstring injury in November, missed 17 games, and never quite looked the same after returning. His struggles were glaring in the 4-0 drubbing at Crystal Palace, where he was caught out repeatedly, playing almost like a ghost of his former self. He finished the season with a pass completion rate of just 80.5% in the Premier League, down from 83.3% the year before. He looked slow, often caught out of position, and the relentless energy that defined his Real Madrid days seemed to have evaporated. Manchester United finished eighth, their worst Premier League finish ever. Now, ESPN sources say Inter Miami, LA Galaxy, and Al Ittihad are all circling.

The MLS Appeal: Beckham's Blueprint or Just a Retirement Home?

Inter Miami makes sense on paper. Lionel Messi, Sergio Busquets, Jordi Alba – the gang's all there. Imagine Casemiro slotting into that midfield, shielding the back four, allowing Messi and Suárez to do their thing up top. Miami has been aggressive in building a super team, and adding another former Real Madrid star fits their brand. They currently sit atop the Eastern Conference with 38 points through 19 games. Adding Casemiro would be another massive marketing win, sure, but also a legitimate upgrade on the pitch, assuming he can stay healthy and rediscover some form. He'd instantly become one of the league's top defensive midfielders.

Then there's the LA Galaxy. Hollywood lights, a different kind of pressure. The Galaxy are also having a decent season, third in the Western Conference with 31 points. They've got some good pieces, like Riqui Puig pulling the strings in midfield. Casemiro would provide a much-needed defensive presence, something they've lacked at times. But here’s my hot take: Casemiro joining the Galaxy feels less like a strategic football move and more like a lifestyle choice. He'd be a big name, sure, but I don't see him elevating the Galaxy in the same way he might Miami.

Saudi Arabia's Allure: A Different Kind of Challenge

Al Ittihad, on the other hand, offers a different proposition: serious money and a chance to play alongside Karim Benzema. We've seen countless players make the switch to the Saudi Pro League in the last year or so, like Cristiano Ronaldo joining Al Nassr in January 2023. Al Ittihad finished fifth last season, a significant drop after winning the title in 2022-23. They’re looking to rebuild, and Casemiro would be a huge statement signing, a true world-class talent to help them compete for the league title again. The pace of play is different, perhaps less demanding week-to-week than the Premier League, which might suit a player who’s seen a dip in his physical output.

Look, Casemiro is 32. He's got plenty left in the tank if he's managed correctly. He's still a phenomenal passer, completing 88% of his short passes this past season. His tackling numbers, though down, were still respectable. He averaged 2.5 tackles per 90 minutes in the Premier League. He just needs a system that protects him a bit more, or a league where the demands aren't quite so relentless. He needs a fresh start.

My bold prediction? Casemiro ends up in Miami. The chance to link up with his old teammates and play for a team with genuine ambition to win trophies in a growing league will be too enticing to pass up.
