Serie A is back. After years of being dismissed as a declining league, Italian football is producing some of the most exciting title races in Europe. The 2025-26 Scudetto race is a three-way battle between Inter Milan, Napoli, and Juventus, and the quality of football has never been higher.

The Scudetto race

Inter Milan (1st, 64 points): The defending champions are top of the table, but they haven't been as dominant as last season. Simone Inzaghi's 3-5-2 system is still effective, but opponents have figured out how to exploit the spaces behind the wing-backs. Lautaro Martínez has been brilliant — 19 goals and the best striker in Serie A. Their defense, led by Bastoni and Acerbi, is the best in the league.

Napoli (2nd, 62 points): Napoli are 2 points behind Inter and playing the best football in the league. Their attack is devastating — Kvaratskhelia, Osimhen (or his replacement), and the supporting cast create chances at will. The concern is their away form — they've dropped too many points on the road.

Juventus (3rd, 58 points): Juventus are back in the title race after a couple of disappointing seasons. Thiago Motta's appointment has transformed the team — they play progressive, attacking football that's a far cry from the defensive Juventus of old. Vlahović has 16 goals, and the midfield is creative and energetic.

Champions League spots

The top 4 qualify for the Champions League. Inter, Napoli, and Juventus are likely to take three of those spots. The 4th is being contested by AC Milan, Atalanta, and Lazio.

AC Milan have been inconsistent — brilliant one week, terrible the next. Their squad is talented but lacks the consistency needed for a top-4 finish. Atalanta under Gasperini are always competitive, and their pressing game is one of the best in Europe. Lazio are the dark horse — they've been quietly accumulating points and could sneak into the top 4.

The relegation battle

The bottom of Serie A is always tight. The current bottom three are Salernitana, Lecce, and Empoli. Salernitana look doomed — they've won just 3 games all season. Lecce and Empoli are both fighting hard, but they lack the quality to pull away from danger.

Verona, Cagliari, and Frosinone are all within touching distance of the relegation zone. The final 10 games will be brutal.

Why Serie A is back

Serie A's resurgence is real. The league has attracted better players, the tactical quality is improving, and the stadiums are getting better (slowly). Inter's Champions League final appearance in 2023 showed that Italian clubs can compete at the highest level again.

The key is investment. Italian clubs are spending more on players and infrastructure, and the results are showing on the pitch. Serie A may never match the Premier League's financial power, but it doesn't need to — the quality of football and the tactical sophistication make it one of the most interesting leagues in the world.
