The Capocannoniere is Serie A's top scorer award, and this season's race is one of the most competitive in years. Three strikers are separated by just 3 goals, and the race will go down to the final matchday.

The top scorers

1. Lautaro Martínez (Inter Milan) — 19 goals

Lautaro is the complete striker. He scores with his right foot, his left foot, and his head. He's clinical inside the box and capable of spectacular goals from distance. His partnership with Thuram creates space that other strikers don't get, and he's ruthless at converting chances. He's the favorite to win the Capocannoniere.

2. Dušan Vlahović (Juventus) — 17 goals

Vlahović has been reborn under Thiago Motta. After a frustrating couple of seasons where he was isolated up front, Motta's system gives him more support and more chances. His finishing has been clinical — he's converting at a rate of 22%, which is elite. His left foot is one of the most powerful in football.

3. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia (Napoli) — 16 goals

Kvaratskhelia isn't a traditional striker — he plays on the left wing — but his goal output is remarkable. He cuts inside onto his right foot and shoots with precision and power. He's also got 10 assists, making him the most productive player in Serie A overall.

4. Marcus Thuram (Inter Milan) — 14 goals

Thuram's evolution from a supporting striker to a genuine goalscorer has been one of the stories of the season. He's added finishing to his already impressive all-round game, and his partnership with Lautaro is the best in Serie A.

5. Rafael Leão (AC Milan) — 12 goals

Leão is the most talented player in Serie A on his day. His pace, his dribbling, and his ability to score spectacular goals make him a joy to watch. The problem is consistency — he disappears for weeks at a time, which is why he's 5th rather than 1st.

Who will win?

Lautaro is the favorite. He's 2 goals clear, and Inter's system creates more chances for him than any other striker gets. Vlahović is the main challenger — he's been on a hot streak since January, scoring 8 goals in his last 7 games. If he maintains that form, he could overtake Lautaro.

The Capocannoniere record is 36 goals, set by Gonzalo Higuaín in 2015-16. That record is safe — the modern game is more defensive, and no one is getting close to 36. But Lautaro's 19 goals in 28 games is an excellent return, and he could finish with 25-27.

Historical winners

Recent Capocannoniere winners include Lautaro (2023-24), Osimhen (2022-23), and Immobile (2021-22). The award has been dominated by different players each year, which shows how competitive Serie A has become. Gone are the days when one player would win it 3-4 years in a row.
